How to Elevate Your Performance at Work
/When you elevate your performance at work, you take your game to a whole new level. You challenge yourself to accomplish more than you have in the past. You do things differently and you achieve more success. You tap into a new energy – one that motivates you to achieve the best possible results. And once you’re operating at your highest level, you’ll be amazed at the opportunities that present themselves because you’re showing up as the best and most effective version of you.
Elevating your performance is a critical step in achieving the life and career you want, but as a coach I see many people hold themselves back from reaching their true potential simply because they’re afraid of the unknown. They don’t know what life is going to be like at this new level, so they look for excuses to stay where they are.
I’m here to tell you that although elevating your game can be scary, it’s worth it because doing so will enable you to experience the benefits of all your hard work up until now. With that said, here are three steps you can take right away to elevate your performance at work, and get one step closer to the life and career you deserve:
1. Identify your goal. Deep inside, you know what you need to do to elevate your performance. Maybe you need to be more productive, voice your opinions more, or identify new opportunities to advance your career. Whatever it is that you think will elevate your game the most, make that your number one goal and commit to doing everything within your power to achieve it.
2. Overcome the blocks that are holding you back. Once you know what your goal is, think about what’s preventing you from achieving it. Why haven’t you been able to accomplish this goal before? What obstacles are standing in your way? For example, if you need to be more productive, maybe you haven’t been able to accomplish that goal because you aren’t delegating properly. Or, maybe you get distracted during the workday, and tasks don’t get done on time. Be honest with yourself and commit to improving your performance moving forward.
3. Make a plan for your success. Create a step-by-step blueprint for exactly what you need to do to accomplish your goal. Focus on small, actionable steps that you can take to overcome your obstacles, move towards success, and elevate your performance. For example, if you want to be more productive, you might create a strategy to delegate a certain percentage of your tasks to other members on your team, limit distractions, and schedule blocks of time to handle the critical tasks that are often overlooked because you’re too busy managing the minutia of your day.
